Sharon you're a truly unforgettable performer.
The energy and vitality you brought to your music transcends description. I'll never forget watching you in Sydney completely take over the crowd - we all just basked in your music.
Someone never to be forgotten.

I heard a song on the radio in Montreal in Feb 2011, don't remember which one it was but all I head the the dj say was it was by Sharon Dap.... it sounded so good I googled Sharon Dap and found her... bought then cd and was blown away.

To my surprise that same year you performed at the Montreal Jazz fest, I took my new date and together we discovered each other and Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings.
The 2 things that always my me happy, my love for her and SJDK!

I saw Sharon Jones & The Dap Kings live many times and it was always so thrilling. She always knew how to dazzle an audience and as excited as we all were, Sharon always seemed to be having the most fun out of anybody. She worked hard and seemed to enjoy every second.

Ms. Jones' death was a tremendous loss for all of us, but even more so for all those who knew her personally and especially, The Dap Kings. She will be sorely missed.

I'll never forget seeing your concert in New Orleans in 2014 and meeting you afterward. You graciously stayed till every fan in the long line waiting to meet you received a few minutes of your time. I couldn't imagine how such a small woman who'd just waged the battle of her life had the energy necessary for such an electric performance. When my chance came I thanked you for such an amazing show and asked for a hug. Of course you obliged with your smile that lit up the room. I'd hoped to see you perform again. Unfortunately I'll never have that chance, but I'll never forget that night on February 22, 2014. Ours was a better world with you in it, Miss Sharon Jones.

Who I am as a dancer -- and a person -- was significantly shaped by Sharon Jones.

In 2007, at the Apollo Theater in Harlem, Sharon brought me onstage to dance to a song with her, as she does. That became a part of my Dap Kings experience, dancing with Sharon onstage whenever she was in town.

After that, whenever I would start to freak out before a performance or competition, I would remember the joy of being onstage with Sharon, and my tension and fear would abate.

I am in mourning for the loss of Miss Jones from this world. But I'm also so grateful for all that she brought to my life -- her bravery, her fierce drive to achieve her dreams despite many setbacks, her passion for music and dancing, her generosity to her band and her fans. She was a dreamer, a fighter, a diva, a queen, a preacher, and a healer. I dedicate myself to paying forward what she left to me.
