Remembering Sharon Jones

December 18, 2016
Condolences to the family of Miss Jones as well as appreciation for inviting everyone to the memorial at the Imperial Theater. It was lovely.

Miss Jones will be remembered for her many contributions to all of our lives, and I will never forget her incredibly energetic performances. She could out-dance the fringe on a dress.

I am thankful that she found and shared her talents, her sense of humor, and her genuineness. I wish she had found good health and that we had had her here a little longer.

I discovered you too late, Sharon, via an interview with Terry Gross on Fresh Air. I immediately checked out your music and fell in love with your sound and spirit. These live on, and you will be missed by many forever. Thank you for pursuing your dreams and never giving up!

Sharon,
I miss you more than I could say and am so happy you left so much music and memories for me to cherish. I saw you perform at the Canton Life is Good Festival in 2010 and was hooked! My husband and I were in the front three rows for the comeback show at The Beacon which was one of the highlights of my LIFE. In February we flew to New Orleans to see you at Jazz Fest and you were phenomenal as ever. I won't soon forget you and do glad we have Miss Sharon Jones which captures your spirit off stage. I wish I had made it to your Brooklyn summer free shoes but am delighted you performed there and know you're making heaven a better place. Love, Lara Sue and José

I discovered "got a thing on my mind" through breakdancing. This lead me to go to see your show on Dour festival. It was 3pm and me and 2 friends seemed to be the only ones ready for your beautiful music. We were taking up all the space in front of the stage, dancing, enjoying. That's when you dedicated 'Make it good to me ' to "my three guys up front". It was the single most memorable moment in all my concert experience. To this day I regret not jumping on stage and doing just so when you sang "come over here and kiss me". Thank you Sharon for this moment, all the beautiful moments like this you gave to people around the world, you beautiful music and who you are. You will live on in our hearts, minds, ears and soul.
