Sharon Jones & the Dap Kings brought the soul back in to my life in 2010. At the North Sea Jazz fest she made me feel like i was in a club in the mid sixties. She made me re-discover rhytm & blues, soul and funk (read: all Daptone artists) and i am very very thankfull for it. But most of all she showed me that with being honoust and enthousiastic about what you do, you can conqour the world. And that is how i'll remember Sharon: as a pure and sparkling spirit. Rest in peace dear Sharon.

There have been many times I was struggling to keep it together, but the universe sent you to raise me up above it all. It started in 2005 when a friend brought over "how long do I have to wait for you". In 2010, you saved me in SLC when I was dealing with an abusive boss. You told me hilarious stories of your time as a prison guard. Over the years i have been blessed to get to know you and your gang better. You all have touched my life so. Sharon Jones, you mean a great deal to me. You symbolize a power and an energy that is a divine force in me. Only angels and saints have enough energy to be so amazing and also have time for us lowly earthlings. The way 2016 is going, I'm starting to wonder if the heavens aren't just calling their best soldiers back. Hopefully they're all having a hell of a party up there. Hopefully, they're working on a master plan to dance us all (well, I meant to say save us all, but that's a good typo to keep).

Sharon's music was very special to me, it ignited a love and an energy that will likely be unsurpassed. I was lucky enough to meet her the two times I saw her live and recall her warmth, and her genuine interest and care for her fans. I will miss her and her music terribly but will take comfort in the legacy she has left us. x
